While some of us can only dream of owning a brand new Shelby GT500, known for its ridiculous amount of ponies straight out of the gate, others may be wondering whether to opt for the brand new 2014 model. If so, be prepared to fork over a few extra dollars for that baby.

According to Ford the 2014 Shelby GT500 will cost you $55,445 including a destination charge of $795. That’s $450 more than what the 2013 Shelby started at. Of course the convertible versions have also jumped the same amount costing you just $60,445 to roll topless. But as we have seen at dealerships, some have been adding an additional $10,000-$20,000 premium on top of the sticker price.

With a newly redesigned 2015 model set to debut soon on the fresh named S550 platform name, there’s no confirmation that the Shelby will be offered for the redesigned Mustang of 2015, though we assume it will. This could be its last year retiring just like the Boss 302 did after a two year run as it did back in the old days.

With the new Mustang looking to go less retro, every rendering shows it smaller, lighter, and sporting an independent rear suspension. With that probably the case, you may want to opt for a live axle 2014 Shelby GT500 while they are still in production.

With 662 rear wheel horses under the gas pedal, would you pay more for the brand new Shelby? While $450 may seem like change in the car world, it’s still a lot to most. But if you’re going to go Shelby, you are already looking to spend quite a few dollars on your Mustang.
