Ford Mustang fans the world over are revving up for what promises to be one of the most anticipated new car reveals of the decade, perhaps even the century. Ford has announced that for the next year, it will work with product makers to roll out a series of limited edition items commemorating this momentous occasion in the Blue Oval pony car’s long history.
One of the first official items for the Mustang’s 50th anniversary is a Shinola-made luxury wrist watch, which combines many features and textures from the Mustang into an extravagant timepiece.
Shinola is a Detroit-based luxury goods maker with a history dating back to 1929, and Bedrock Manufacturing revived the name in 2011. The first Shinola watch in decades, the Runwell, was an instant hit, and Ford contracted the company to produce its Mustang-inspired watch for the 50th anniversary.
The authentic leather band looks quite a bit like a Mustang seat belt strap, and the faceplate features the unique Mustang 50 years logo. The Swiss quartz movement can be submerged up to five atmospheres. This is just the first of many Mustang-themed products the Blue Oval has planned. Among the items you can buy right now are mugs, backpacks, duffel bags, and a number of different clothing items.
As for the watch, that will set you back a steep $750, though that’s still a lot cheaper than an actual Mustang.
