[...] 0Comments It wasn’t too long ago that the Shelby GT500 was the only game in town, pumping out over 500 horsepower from its supercharged 5.4 liter engine. My how a few years can change so much. Now not only does the Shelby GT500 have to compete with the 470 horsepower 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8, but also the 550 horsepower Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. But it would appear that the Blue Oval is one step ahead, as rumors circulate across the Internet that the next Shelby GT500 could pack as much as 620 horsepower. [...]

Ford's options are many: 5.0 GT Mustang with a supercharger would be more than feasible and profitable [ best of both worlds ] and the Boss 302 with a supercharger [ world class power and handling ].
Former and current short term run and low production success stories:
2003-2004 Cobra Mustang
2003-2004 Mustang Mach 1
2005 Mustang Bullit
Ford Lightning F-150
2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca
2011-2012 Boss 302
2011 Taurus SHO
1969-1970 Boss 429
1971 Boss 351
1969-1970 Boss 302
19681/2 GT Mustang 428 Cobra Jet

Ford has done it before and will continue to do it into the future. The performance market in the United States in comparison with the rest of the world has completely different standards and expectations. Our performance automotive culture is unique and in a large way "the world" dosen't get it. On a side note if you want heated seats and a backup camera you might want to take a look at the new line of Lincolns.

2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca- "for the sake of it."

Not bloody likely before the 2014 model year and GT500's successor unless it can be either accomplished largely by tuning or underpinnings that can be carried-forward.

Ford has exited the business of "fort the sake of". If it cant do something profitably, it doesn't do it. A 5,000-unit run just doesn't warrant what folks are speculating. Perhaps, Ford may offer a factory TVS option, but there's no point in doing a one-off for a single model year that's otherwise unremarkable.

I only hope Ford gives back heated seats and a backup camera.

In the past there were moments where Ford had the technology to trounce the Camaro for a given model year and for one reason or another [ probably beancounters ] Ford declined the opportunity. Since 2003 [ Cobra Mustang ] Ford has done an excellent job of responding to Chevrolet's performance offerings and it seems that in the future Ford is not letting up. How long will the Muscle Car wars last is anybody's guess. With the cries of the treehuggers and rising oil prices, who knows, it could be over tomorow. Either way it's safe to say it won't last too much longer and I hope that Ford is unrelenting all the way until the end. Ford has the technology and engineering to keep this thing going and in my opinion, the looks to go with it. The first Muscle Car War Ford could have been more dominant but because of poor decision making that wasn't the case. Let's hope on this second and final run that Ford finishes the same it started: First On Race Day.
