Just this week, Ford announced a safety recall for the 2015-2017 model year Shelby GT350 and GT350R Mustangs; which were produced between February 24th, 2015, and August 30th, 2016, at the Flat Rock assembly plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.

Ford addressed in its press release that approximately 8,026 Shelby Mustangs were affected by this recall; including 6,523 in the United States, 957 in Canada, 346 in Mexico, and 59 in other federalized territories. Albeit Ford said they are not aware of any fires, accidents or injuries associated with this issue, you can safely bet that they’ll be taking the necessary precautions to ensure optimum safety.

The recall states that some Shelby Mustangs could suffer from potential oil leaks, and that the engine oil cooler tube assembly must be replaced. In these affected vehicles, Ford states that the engine oil cooler tube assemblies may have “insufficient crimps on the hose that could lead to a hose separation and an oil leak.” And, that a, “sudden loss of engine oil may result in engine failure, and – in the presence of an ignition source – could lead to a fire.”

Good news for Shelby enthusiasts however, as Ford stated that its dealerships will replace the engine oil cooler tube assembly at no cost to the customer.

With the recent rumors of the 2018-plus Shelby GT350/GT350R models receiving a dual-clutch automatic transmission, could it be worth the wait on pulling the trigger for a new Shelby Mustang?
