Ford Racing Releases Pictures of Red and White Cobra Jet Mustang

Ford is giving its racing fans not one, but two all-new race cars for 2011. There is of course the 2012 Mustang BOSS 302, and then there’s the 2012 Mustang Cobra Jet designed explicitly for drag racing. We’ve seen a veritable flood of pictures of the BOSS 302, but the Cobra Jet Mustangs are just starting to make it through production.

Ford Racing has released more pictures of completed Cobra Jets, in Winner White and new-for-2012, Race Red.

It’s a shame they didn’t show us pictures of our favorite racing color, Grabber Blue, but the Race Red and Winner White models look almost as nice. Ford Racing released pictures of the Cobra Jets under production just a few weeks ago, and obviously several of these race cars have already been completed. Underneath the different color choices though, these are all the same car.

For 2012 the Mustang Cobra Jet packs an aluminum block 5.4 liter V8 engine packing 430 horsepower from a 2.3 liter supercharger, or 500 horsepower from a bigger 4.0 liter supercharger. A rollcage, fuel cell, racing suspension, C4 transmission, and everything you could possibly need for a day at the drag strip are including in the $91,900 base price. Check off every option and you’ll end up paying almost $104,000. Ford is building just 50 Cobra Jets though, and if they’re not already spoken for, they will be soon as these cars continue to roll off of the assembly line.
