It is not secret that technology continues to push the horsepower boundaries higher and higher everyday. Just over a decade ago if you had a 500 hp street car, chances are there wasn’t much in the neighborhood to keep up with you. 1,000 hp was for the track only and was the kind of power that few of us could actually fathom.
With that increasing horsepower comes the need to improve durability and strength. Ford Racing recognizes the need to continually improve their products and offer a wide array of parts for their customers. Hardcore street enthusiasts and racers alike will likely be lining up to get their hands on the latest addition to the Ford racing product line, the new BOSS Big Bore engine blocks.
Available in 8.5, 9.2, and 9.5-inch deck heights, the new blocks feature siamese bores and are cast from diesel grade iron. Thick decks and cylinder walls also help ensure that these blocks are the highest strength ever offered by Ford Racing.

During the initial block boring and fixturing stages, the blocks are machined an additional .125-inches to ensure bore concentricity, integrity, and precise bore location.
The 8.5 deck block comes with an unfinished bore size of 4.120 allowing it to support up to 363 cubic inches, while the 9.5 deck will go all the way up to 460 cubic inches. The blocks are all cast in the USA, and come unfinished, requiring a skilled machine shop to get things ready before assembly of an engine.
We’re sure the new big bore BOSS blocks will be making their way into a variety of builds in the coming months. For more information check out the Ford Racing site, or contact your local Ford Racing Parts distributor.
