Last week Mustang6g sent us what we’d consider to be very solid proof that the next SVT Mustang based on the S550 platform will be called GT350. There’s been a ton of rumors flying about what will power this car, and what kind of power it will make. This week it seems that Mustang6g is bringing us proof that the car will receive a 5.2 liter TIVCT engine, although there’s also an HP1 code stuffed in there too, which we’re wondering about.
The proof comes from some snooping done on the Ford parts web site where those looking at the site noticed some parts already listed in the catalog as being different for a model with a 5.2 engine. Either Ford is messing with those who are already looking for 2015 parts on their web-site or they didn’t want to wait to update the parts catalog later. We’re hoping this means we’ll get to see the new GT350 before the end of the year.
At this point we think it’s safe to speculate that the 5.2 is based around the Coyote engine. Beyond that is anyone’s guess. Rumors abound that this will be a flat-plane crank based engine allowing it to rev higher than anything out of the Ford factory stable ever. We’ve also seen rumors that this could be a direct injected or even a direct injected forced induction engine. EcoBoost 5.2? Supercharged 5.2? We don’t know. What’s on your wish list for the GT350, tell us below.
