The 2015 Ford Mustang marked the 50th anniversary of the first pony car, and the Mustang has since come to represent American muscle all over the world. Finally available on the global stage, Ford has rightly made a big to-do about this one-in-a-lifetime anniversary, recalling all the highs and lows of the Mustang’s long history.
Even though 2015 is now well in our rearview mirror, Ford isn’t quite done celebrating the Mustang’s 50th birthday. It’s latest present to pony car lovers is a hybrid of sorts, as Ford cut a 1965 Mustang and 2015 Mustang right down the middle, before joining the two separate vehicles together into a single trophy celebrating 50 years of this potent pony car.
The 1965/2015 Mustang combination was unveiled on May 4th and is being donated to the National Inventors Hall of Fame. The exhibit that includes the Mustang celebrates intellectual property and patents, noting that the original ‘65 Mustang debuted with over 100 Ford-owned patents. The display will highlight many of these patents, as well as discuss progress and and innovation through American history.
The unique vehicle features 60 percent of the passenger compartments of both an officially licensed 1965 left-hand drive Mustang and a right-hand drive 2015 Mustang. Both vehicles highlight unique features of their respective eras, and visitors to the museum are welcome to sit down and compare those features side-by-side. Interactive museum exhibits have always been our favorite kind of exhibits, and the chance to compare two different eras of this iconic pony car has us laying out plans for a trip to the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
