Like General Motors and Toyota, Ford has decided to pull the plug on domestic manufacturing options in Australia, instead opting to import cars from lower-cost factories. This means the end of the 60+ years of domestic Ford Falcon production, including the long lusted after Falcon GT. Though the Falcon will get a new look before production ends in 2016, the end of the road is here for the Falcon GT a couple of years early.
But this legendary Australian sports car won’t go out with a whimper, and Ford has announced a limited edition to mark the end of Falcon GT production. Called the Falcon GT F, it is basically a gathering of all the best Falcon performance parts into one single vehicle…and then turning up the performance dial just one more notch. There won’t be another chance to go this big, so it’s good to see Ford send the Falcon off right.
The Falcon GT F utilizes the supercharged Coyote 5.0 found in current Falcon GT models, but instead of making 450 horsepower (rated at the wheels, we should note), the motor will be tuned to 470 ponies. That will make it amongst Australia’s most powerful cars, though the performance mods don’t stop there.
FPV is also throwing in the super sporty suspension of the Falcon GT R-Spec model, with stiffer springs, retuned dampers, and thicker anti-roll bars. 19-inch wheels wrapped in Dunlop rubber and big Brembo brakes round out the functional bits, though its looks will be updated with styling cues from past Falcon GT models. Pricing starts at around $72,250 with current exchange rates, a hefty toll to drive one of the last Falcon GTs. Production is limited to just 550 models though, so this is the price of exclusivity, and the last chance to own a legend.
