Ford Adds 2008-09 Mustang Bullitt to Authenticity Program

Hollywood had an amazing effect on the Mustang, helping launch this car to iconic status by featuring it in some of the most car-centric movies of all time. One particular movie, Bullitt, stared Steve McQueen as a hard-nosed cop driving a badass green Mustang. It has become an oft-copied car, and in 2001, 2008, and 2009 Ford released special edition Bullitt Mustangs for purchase to the public. Alas, they did not do very good record keeping, meaning it became quite easy to replicate a Bullitt Mustang and pass it off as authentic.

That’s why Ford vehicle dynamics engineer Nick Terzes spearheaded the effort to grant Certificates of Authenticity to all 2001 Mustang Bullitt owners. That program has since been extended to cover both the 2008-09 Bullitt Mustangs, as well as the 2010 SVT Raptor.

So far, the Certificate of Authenticity Program has included a number of Ford’s special-edition vehicles. From the Ford GT to the SVT Cobra and GT500, these cars are all available as part of the program. It is only available through Ford Racing, and only to authentic SVT vehicles. The certificates contain such pertinent information as VIN#, build date, and where the vehicle was manufactured.

Recently, Ford added two new vehicles to this roster; the 2008-2009 Mustang Bullitt, and the 2010 SVT Raptor. There are also plans to add other SVT vehicles, including the Mercury Marauder and Mustang Mach 1. Each certificate is signed by Edsel B. Ford and/or Carroll Shelby, making it the perfect mantle piece to hang in your garage.
