Mustang enthusiasts are celebrating world-wide this week as the iconic pony car turns 50 years old. But even those who were unable to attend one of the celebration events going on currently were able to make Mustang’s birthday a special one. That’s because with the help of thousands, Ford has now set the Guinness World Record for the most signatures on an electronic birthday card. Who’s the recipient, you ask? Well, none other than the Ford Mustang, of course.
The electronic birthday card (eCard) signing kicked off on April 9th and immediately fans flocked to Ford’s site to send their well-wishes to the Mustang. Ford reports that people from over 160 countries, including Mexico, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada signed the e-card on the first day while signatures peaked the next day with 10,534 unique birthday wishes cast.
On April 16th, just one day before the Mustang’s official 50th birthday and one week after the eCard signing began, Ford had acquired the 50,000 signatures it had wanted to set the world record. As of April 17th, over 55,000 people had signed the Mustang’s birthday card.
While Mustang has officially hit the 5-0 mark, the celebration continues on through the weekend with events taking place in Las Vegas, Charlotte (NC), Dubai, Beijing, Toronto and Melbourne. There’s also plenty of time to celebrate on your own, whether it’s taking your classic Stang out for a weekend drive or giving your modern muscle car its first spring-time bath!
Congratulations goes out to Ford for achieving their world record, as well as to all the Mustang fans that participated in the card signing that made the record possible!
