As you’ve no doubt heard in the news, the cost of going to college has skyrocketed in America, with many young people taking on tens of thousands of dollars in debt to get an education. With the cost of books and beer eating into whatever money students can earn between classes, owning a cool car like a Mustang can be a challenge. And a car like the $55,000 Shelby GT500? Forget about it. You need Oprah money to own a car like that, or at least that’s how it feels when you’re making $8.00 an hour.

22-year old Adam Bergin probably never expected to win a brand new, 2014 Shelby GT500, but Florida Today reports that the married college student was the lucky winner of Amazon’s Need For Speed contest. After shelling out just $1,200 in fees, Bergin was the proud owner of the ultimate muscle car.

Amazon paid the heavy taxes on the gas-guzzling super Mustang, and Bergin was certainly overdue for a new ride. The car he had been driving was a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville with a broken drivers-side window, and worst of all, it wasn’t even his. No, the old Pontiac belonged to Adam’s father, who was letting him use it to get to Nova Southeastern University in Orlando, where Adam is studying to be a physician assistant.

It isn’t hard to believe that Adam has never gotten so much as a parking ticket, so it’s funny to see him compare the Shelby to a “rocket ship.” It might behoove him to take some high-performance driving classes though. The Shelby is a lot of car to handle, though Adam might be the only GT500 owner who might actually see the advertised MPG numbers on a regular basis.
