Stock Eliminator standout Bill Hawk and the Cook Brothers – Roger and Eddie – have long been renowned for their awesome, sometimes controversial, but always fast ’67 Shelby Ford Mustang. The one-of-a-kind (and real) Shelby is a true work of art and perfect example of a classic race car with a modern feel. And so when word got out that the Hawk and Cook duo were having a new 2010 Cobra Jet factory Mustang built, there was little doubt as to the craftsmanship and quality that the final result would exhibit.
And now, with the wraps pulled off the new Hawk & Cook Mustang, we can say with certainty that this is one of, if not the nicest Cobra Jet to hit the race track to date. The car features a Holbrook Engine-built 428 that’s backed by a C4 transmission from JPT mated to an ATI torque converter. Ken Keir Race Cars constructed the chassis that resides within the 2010 Ford Mustang body covered with a spectacular paint job completed by J&J Customs. And the “FR500CJ” personalized license plate is a nice touch, as well.
Set to compete in B/SA, Hawk took the new Mustang for some shakedown at the Maryland International Raceway last weekend, where it reeled off a stellar, wheels-up 9.73 at 137.61 MPH. Non confirmation on the legality of the car on that run, but it’s some .014-seconds quicker than the current B/SA national record.
