With almost a million followers, the Ford Mustang Facebook community is a vast resource that Ford is tapping in to. Fans on the social media site are being asked to submit potential names for the 2012 V6 Performance Package. Attendees of the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show also can submit their ideas at the Ford display. The contest ends in mid-December.
Available since the 2010 Mustang was introduced, the V6 Performance Package includes numerous suspension, braking and body stiffening upgrades to deliver increased handling performance. Given the V6’s 305 hp engine for 2011, the upgraded components are unlikely to go unused.
Those wanting to participate in the contest can can suggest a name on the Mustang Facebook page. A voting gallery will be set up and the top five vote-getters will then go to Ford to choose the name which best demonstrates the personality of the package.
“We’re utilizing the power of social media to not only talk about what a fantastic package this is, but to also let Mustang fans across the country share a piece of it,” said Brian McClary, Ford social and emerging media specialist. “It’s a nontraditional approach to naming a piece of brand that millions of people identify with.”
The contest winner will not only carve out a little piece of Mustang history for themselves, but will also receive a 2-year lease from Ford on a V6 Mustang equipped, of course, with their newly-named performance package.
