When the ORTC Radial Redemption kicks of next weekend at the South Georgia Motorsports Park, a familiar face will roll in the gates and unload an unfamiliar new race car. Over the winter, Outlaw Drag Radial competitor Brad Edwards commissioned noted small tire chassis guru Dave Zimmerman at Team Z Motorsports in Michigan to construct a new SN95 Mustang Cobra featuring a 25.3 spec chassis for Radial battle in 2011.
Zimmerman and company began the project in early December with the goal of completion in time to make the big race at SGMP and before the calendars even flipped over to 2011, the slick new machine was on the ground and on it’s way out the door with Edwards and headed to the paint shop. Edwards and the guys at Team Z walked viewers through the entire process over on the Yellow Bullet forums, providing an inside look at the well-engineered details that go into such an intricate build of what is essentially a Pro Stock chassis mated to a factory automobile.
The car made it’s way out of the paint shop earlier this month with a somewhat tamer look than Edwards’ former Fox body, but with a really sharp look nonetheless. Testing has already taken place in order to check out all of the cars’ functions before heading to Georgia. This car will be one to check out in closer detail in the pits and certainly one to watch on the race track.
