We love us some fine hot rods. Hot rodding has become a classic American venture, and almost 100 years after the first hot rodders started modifying their cars, the hobby is still going strong. It amazes us how even today classic designs remain as timeless and relevant as when they first showed up in dealer showrooms. One of our favorite places to look for hot rods is eBay.
While scouring eBay, we came across this classic 1932 hot rod formerly owned by racer and collector Kirk F. White. What really makes this hot rod special though is the Doane Spencer-built 5.0 liter V8 engine. It was the last engine built by the famous hot rodder.

Doane Spencer is still a name that solicits nods of respect from the hot rod community. He made a name for himself by building and campaigning a 1940’s Duece Hi-Boy in the Panamerica Mexican Road Race. He befriended Kirk White, who later commissioned him to build a ’32 roadster powered by a 5.0 liter Ford engine. The engine was a special combination of factory parts and big names in the aftermarket. A factory forged crankshaft, Yates heads with titanium valves, low-compression pistons so it could run on pump gas, and a racing cam.
Such an engine needed a fitting car, so White commissioned Pete Chapouris to build a tribute ’32 Deuce roadster fashioned after the famous Panamerica car. Almost everything on this roadster has been modified with performance in mind, though much of it is “old school” like the 4-speed transmission and Currie 9-inch rear end and the one-off wheels. Now on eBay, this roadster can be yours for the low, low price of just $200,000.
