The idea of limited-edition production cars is not a new concept. Luxury brands have been driving up prices by limiting production since the first car rolled down the road. Even Ford is guilty of making demand of desirable cars limited. Take the 2012 Boss Mustang, which will be limited to just a few hundred, many of them already spoken for.
However we found one that isn’t. Of course, it will cost you $99,000 if you want to Buy-It-Now from eBay.
The auction is actually for a pre-order of the 2012 Boss Mustang Laguna Seca, from Sarasota Ford in Florida. According to the auction, just 250 2012 Boss Mustangs will be built, and Sarasota Ford managed to nab a single allocation. As we covered earlier, the 2012 Boss Mustangs will be handed out to the top Ford dealerships nationwide. Ford is also dealing some of the Boss Mustangs out through a lottery system. It isn’t clear how Sarasota Ford got their Boss Mustang, only that they did.
They say that the 2012 Boss Mustang Laguna Seca they were allocated will be built between April and June and delivered between May and July. The bidding reached just $42,100 before ending, less than half of the Buy-It-Now price. That doesn’t mean they didn’t sell the car though. In fact that price is right around the cost of the regular 2012 Boss Mustang, which has an MSRP of $40,995. Not sure what the Laguna Seca carries for a price, but this could be a good deal if the sale goes through.
We wonder what kind of bidding wars there might have been if the original Boss Mustangs had gone for sale on eBay.
