The Ford Super Cobra-Jet engine is one of the most sought after Ford engines in muscle cars. Recently, a ‘71 Mach 1 was listed on eBay, sporting a true429 Cobra-Jet engine. This restored classic also came with many other perks and would have made the winning bidder a very happy individual had the reserve been met before the auction closed.
The Mach 1 was finished in Dark Blue with a Silver Nasa hood and Mach 1 stripes. Chrome rear bumper, rear spoiler in black and BF Goodrich radial tires completed the pristine exterior of the car. In addition to the restoration-added, desirable Cobra-Jet engine, the Mach 1 also came with the rare factory Select-Aire air conditioning system.
The car came equipped with a four-speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter. High-back bucket seats in black, a new AM/FM stereo and CD player and factory instrumentation also came in the Mach 1. Beyond good looks, power steering and brakes made this car enjoyable to drive.
With only 69,711 miles on the car, this Mach 1 was truly a gem. After 16 bids and $19,100 was offered, the car failed to be sold by auction close on May 27th. It is unfortunate that this beautiful Cobra-Jet car was unable to be sold due to the reserve not being met. We hope that we see this car relisted on eBay soon. Maybe then the car will get a high enough bid and be done some justice.
