Engine swaps are the essence of hot rodding. When it comes to Mustangs, the possibilities are endless as to what we’re able to drop in them. We don’t know why, but people even put non-Ford engines in them.
One swap that is new to us is this Raptor 6.2L Fox swap. We had yet to see one before this car, but like those ideas everyone else has, this coupe leaves us with the feeling of why we didn’t think of it a long time ago. A Raptor 6.2L engine was designed to haul around a 6,000-plus pound truck, so in a Fox coupe, this particular crate engine is living a life of luxury. Well, except for when the owner took the car to the track, where it ran a best of 9.98 at 136 mph, and that’s in naturally aspirated form.
The owner didn’t just buy a Raptor crate engine, and drop it in the car. Looking through the listing, you can see not much was left stock, but the engine features many upgrades. Fox Lake ported the heads, which also benefit from Bullet Racing billet cams, PAC valve springs, titanium retainers, and CNC’d valve lash caps to maintain correct geometry on the reduced base circle cams. Up top is a ported Edelbrock Victor Glidden intake using Wilson Pro-Flow adapter plates. Wilson ported the intake to match the adapter plates, which are also matched to the heads. The Victor Glidden intake uses a 4150-carb pattern to which the owner added a Pro-Systems 840-cfm carburetor. With RPM Engineering custom headers, and very little else to hold up burnt gases on the way out, the combination is good for almost 500-rwhp on 91-octane.
Like we said earlier, not much on this car has been left untouched. Even the car’s Tremec TKO 500 has face-plated gears, and the 8.8 rear has welded tubes and Strange 35-spline axles, among many other mods to both transmission and rear end.
This is a car you can buy and jump right in and go.
