One of the great things about the car hobby is that your modifications are only limited by the size of your budget – you can do as much or as little to your car as you’d like. That has spawned some interesting ideas over the years – we’ve seen it all from the absurd to the incredible, and this particular car is one of the better-executed examples of the breed. Is it worth the asking price of $9,500? The auction has already ended once and the car has been re-listed, but maybe the right buyer just hasn’t seen it yet.
The owner states that the car was recently restored with the idea of building a Cannonball Run-style Mustang with an old-school feel, by duplicating some of the design touches of the earlier Mustang models. Many modifications were performed to the car, with one of the more unique mods the hand-formed panels in the rear replicating the look of the ’70 Mustang including the valance-exit exhaust and large Mustang emblem smack-dab in the center. The traditional four-eye nose has also been modified with a big pair of round headlamps set inboard and a pair of mesh-style inserts in the outboard position for a look that’s as unique as any we’ve seen. Ten-hole wheels have been modified to accept tri-bar knockoffs, and the car even includes a trunk-mounted full size spare.
On the inside, the car has an interior supported by a four-point roll bar and a set of racing seats, but the familiar Fox dash has been modified with a set of old-school gauges, a wood-rim steering wheel, and a woodgrain treatment that all looks surprisingly at home nestled inside the Porno Red interior panels. Speaking of those panels, they have also been re-finished and feature prominent Mustang badges set in the center to complete the look. The engine and drivetrain haven’t been fleshed out to modern standards, but the owner does state that the engine is relatively fresh and there’s a Nitrous Express nitrous system riding shotgun just in case. With many new parts already onboard and a unique look, maybe this is the base for your new show car?
