Craigslist Find: “Ultra High Speed” Neon Green ‘87 Mustang

In many ways, Craigslist has reshaped the landscape when it comes to posting classified ads. Today it is a cornerstone of the online marketplace, a land of opportunity and scams, great deals and bad ideas. Many of these bad ideas can be found in the cars + trucks segment, where many a half-finished, poorly-planned project has been given up for dead and a wad of $20 bills.

We have come across just such a project in the Philadelphia section of Craigslist. This futuristic-looking Fox-body is all set up for a high-horsepower engine and “ultra-high-speed” driving. But would you a Mustang that looks like this at 300 mph?

Aerodynamics changed the way cars were designed in the 1980’s, and it doesn’t take a genius to know that the Fox-body Mustang isn’t all that aerodynamic. But with a few intense body modifications, ultra-high-speed stability can be achieved. The most obvious modification is flatter hatchback and hilariously over-sized wing.

But it is far from the only body modification, as this Mustang wears a widebody kit designed to flow air over the wheel wells, reducing drag. The front spoiler looks lower, and the hood flatter. The design was supposedly penned by Harry Bradley, and the body panels are lightweight, constructed from Kevlar and carbon fiber.

This Mustang was designed for speeds of between 250 and 300 mph…kind of difficult to achieve without an engine or transmission, and the $15,000 asking price might not leave a lot of room in the budget for a big motor. But if you have to have a one-of-a-kind lightweight Mustang, look no further.
