The Ford Mustang has long been a source of automotive inspiration for shade tree mechanics and custom car shops alike. The Mustang is one of the few cars able to cross imaginary borders to become something so much more than just another American muscle car.
In this case, a 1986 Mustang wearing the distinct four-eyed look of the early Fox-bodies has been converted into an off-road beast commonly referred to as a “trar”, a combination truck and car. It should come as little surprise that the “Mudstang” as its owner refers to it, was posted to the Dallas, Texas Craigslist.
Packing a rebuilt 302 cubic-inch V8 with a three-speed transmission, this 30-year old Fox-body now rests on the frame of a Ford Bronco. In other words, the builder kept it all within the Ford family, which we’re sure you purists will appreciate. Not that there’s anything “pure” left about the Mudstang. As the owner says in the ad, “This this Big Boy Toy is fast, crazy fun, original and ready to go mudden.”
In case that wasn’t Southern or redneck enough for you, the Mudstang even comes equipped with a Confederate Flag license plate. Nothing screams “The South Will Rise Again!” like a made-in-China Confederate license plate and a Mustang sitting on a four-wheeler frame. The builder did take the time to Rhino-line the entire frame and body though, and the flat black paint job with red stripes is as fresh as you’ll want for boggin’ down in the dirt.
For the asking price of $4,500, you’re going to have a hard time finding a similar, uh, vehicle for your “mudden” needs.
