The Fox-body Mustang has a huge following among Ford fans as it represented a return to what made the original pony car so amazing. The Fox-body Mustang also saw the return of the Cobra name (albeit in its very final year of production), a name that the Mustang would carry on its top-end models all the way through 2004. The supercharged “Terminator” Cobras were again, a last hurrah for an outgoing body style before being replaced by the GT500 moniker
How fitting is it then that this ‘87 Mustang we found for sale on Craigslist has the heart of a Terminator Cobra under the hood? Clean, subtle, and cool, that’s what this Mustang is.
1987 gave us the new-and-improved “aero” body style for the Fox-body Mustang, doing away with the quad-headlight setup. This particular model is a couple notchback sans any of the “in-your-face” flair of the GT model. The only exterior modifications are 10th anniversary SVT wheels and a cowl induction hood, keeping this classic Fox-body looking simple yet sharp.
Under the hood though it is all business with a 4.6 liter supercharged Cobra V8 that was dyno-tuned at 497 rear-wheel horsepower. Not too shabby for an old Fox-body, though the seller (who is asking $20,000) seems ready to move on. Even the interior was converted to a Cobra interior, really classing up this old Mustang.
This looks like Cobra conversion done right, and we wouldn’t mind taking it for a spin.
