This year the NMRA is taking a long break between the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl at Joliet and the NMRA World Finals in Bowling Green, KY. With that long break comes the dilemma of what to do. While we’re sure plenty of racers are looking closely at their engines, tunes, and chassis, there is sure to be a fair amount of testing to go along with that.

Testing is good but how do you find out how any changes you’ve made stack up against your competition. Or better yet, why not go out and do some racing and make some money while you’re at it.

For Coyote Stock racers this opportunity comes in the form of the first ever Coyote Pro Stock race. This Saturday August 2, Thornhill Dragway in Morning View, KY will host the Bluegrass Super Shifters series. Along with that series Thornhill will be invaded by what appears to be around half of the current contenders in NMRA’s Coyote Stock class.

We know for sure that BGSS regular and 2013 Coyote Stock points runner up Jacob Lamb will be there. We’ve also confirmed that Steve Moberly will be bringing out his Fairmont which debuted in Factory Stock at the Super Bowl, but is legal for Coyote Stock racing as well.

The rules for the race are simple, Coyote Stock sealed crate engine, 3,000 pounds vehicle weight, no power adders. It pretty much follows the rulebook of the NMRA Coyote Stock class.

To sweeten the deal Thornhill will throw in another $750 to the purse if they can get over 1,000 spectators at the event. Additionally Finish Line Performance has thrown in $250 for the racer with the best reaction time. If the event is a success Thornhill will again fill the gap in September with another Coyote Pro Stock race.

Of course we’ll be sending editor Creason out with his camera to cover the action and spend Saturday hanging with the racers at Thornhill. We want to see this event successful and hope that as many fans and racers that can make the trip to Thornhill will come out Saturday for the first ever Coyote Pro Stock event. Of course if you can’t make it be sure to check back here on Monday for the results.
