With the 2013 Mustang refresh likely the last major overhaul Ford will give its sports car before an all-new model debuts for the 2015 model year, everybody is speculating what the NEXT Mustang will look like. So far Ford has pretty much confirmed that the next Mustang will be a dramatic departure from the current crop of ‘Stangs, borrowing heavily from the EVOS concept when it comes to looks. But that leaves talented artists plenty of wiggle room to interpret their own vision of the 2015 Mustang.
Over at Carscoop Josh Byrnes came up with his own take on the next-gen Mustang, borrowing heavily from the current model while significantly softening some of the features. To our eyes, its one of the best concept drawings to date.
Byrnes makes no bones about it; he loves the current, retro-tastic design of the Mustang, and it shows on his concept. Rather than go for a total rewrite, Byrnes appears to have started with the current model Mustang and worked to integrate lines from the more-fluid EVOS concept. An exageratted border at the front end helps maintain the old school fascia, though the back end is a lot softer than the Mustang on dealership lots today.
As much as we like this design, we’re pretty sure it isn’t even close to radical enough for the redesign Ford is plotting. Byrnes design is more evolutionary, like the 2010 refresh that fixed many problems Mustang buyers had (boring back end, bloated look). Edmunds Inside Line drew their own concept Mustang which is probably a lot closer to what Ford is cooking up…though who knows? The Blue Oval has surprised us before…
