Classic Recreations, of Yukon, OK, has announced plans to add a convertible option to their line of 1967 G.T.500CR continuation cars. Within the history of Shelby automobiles, there was only one 1967 Convertible G.T.500 ever built. Ordered as a replacement for Carroll Shelby’s daily driver, the prototype car never saw more than company internal use.
Within the Classic Recreations line, all G.T.500CR models feature a hand-built 427 cubic inch (7.0L) engine, modern performance suspension, model specific bodywork, custom paint and hand-stitched upholstery. Officially recognized in the the Shelby Worldwide Registry, every car comes with an official Shelby serial number and badge.
The convertible version will be available in all of Classic Recreations’ model lineup. The G.T.500CR 525 model features a 545hp fuel injected 427 engine, modernized suspension, power rack and pinion steering and a Tremec five speed manual transmission, as well as ZR rated tires on 17×8″ Shelby 427 wheels and cross drilled Shelby/Baer brakes.
The 545 adds Carroll Shelby signature rally series 1000 seats, larger 9.5-inch rear wheels and a full coilover suspension for modern sports car handling.
The top of the line 900S boosts power to 780hp with an F1-R Intercooled ProCharger supercharged engine. Additional upgrades include a 200mph speedometer and racing-style bucket seats, suspension and chassis upgrades, plus 11-inch rear wheels and ultra high performance Goodyear tires.
Each built-to-order vehicle takes approximately four months, or almost 2,500 man hours, of assembly work. Additional information is available at the company web site.
