Classic Design Concepts Builds “Bad Penny” Mustang For SEMA Debut

Building a car that can “do it all” is a hallmark of SEMA-built machines – cars from many custom car builders have shown up at the yearly trade show sporting wild upgrades in looks, handling, and power.

This year, Classic Design Concepts decided to bring their take on the perfect Mustang to ring out the S197 platform’s existence. Bad Penny’s 2014 Mustang chassis is set up to be the ultimate competition machine, from road courses to dragstrips and everything in between.

DSC_0084Power comes from the noted 5.0L Coyote engine topped off with a Ford Racing/Whipple supercharger system that pumps out 624 horsepower. Engine output is further enhanced by a set of Pypes long-tube headers exiting through a Magnaflow GT500 catback that runs through a Ford Racing side exhaust system, giving this hotrod a nice bark to go with its bite.

The suspension has been tweaked thanks to a four-corner set of Ford Racing adjustable shocks and struts augmented by Mustang RTR adjustable front and rear sway bars, and Whiteline Performance Watts-Link. A complete Wilwood brake system with W6A front and W4 rear Big Brake Kits are in effect to bring the speeds down when required. BFGoodrich g-Force Rival tires in 285/35/20 and 315/35/20 fitments roll on Forgiato F2.15 20-inch three-piece wheels.

The exterior has been enhanced with a full complement of Classic Design Concepts’ parts including their Performance Upper Grille, Chin Spoiler, Hood Vent Accents, Brake Cooling Ducts, lower grille, and painted Lower Body Splitters. Mustang RTR’s aluminum rear spoiler, decklid trim panel, and license plate surround complete the aggressive look. Many of the styling components have been electro-plated in copper, which is set off by the triple-cleared black paint.

Inside, one of Ford Racing’s rear seat delete kits and gauge pack help to spice things up, and a set of Ford Racing/Recaro racing seats keeps the driver in place.

Classic Design Concepts also set the car up with custom seating surfaces and interior trim by Alea Leather.

You can’t have a car like this without a killer audio system, and to that end Kicker IX amplifiers, L7 subwoofers, and QS mid speakers blast your choice of tunes throughout the cabin.

We love SEMA cars, and Bad Penny is just one reason why.
