Few cars are as famous as the Ford Mustang, and it isn’t just in America that the pony car enjoys a fanatical following. From Poland to Australia and everywhere in-between, the Ford Mustang is popular with a huge and diverse crowd of people. But unless you’re incredibly wealthy, owning a Mustang just isn’t feasible for most people. What’s a Mustang fan to do?
Over in China, at least one Mustang fan decided to turn his car into a poorly-conceived and built homemade remedy, reports Jalopnik, who came across these pictures from Matthew Ungar, who keeps a photo diary of cars in China.
Outside of the hand-crafted Mustang badge at the front, and the Saleen sticker across the window, we would never have guessed that this was supposed to be a Mustang. The four-door hatchback body has been incredibly modified from front fenders to rear bumper. The hatch was chopped to better resemble a fastback bodystyle, and the front fenders and hood were elongated for that muscle car look, with awful results.
It’s hard to tell what kind of car this used to be…the best bet is a Volkswagen Golf, or Golf-knockoff. If you thought the front end was bad, just get a gander at the rear…it’s even worse. Those taillights look nothing like any Mustang we’ve ever seen, the prancing pony is facing the wrong way, the headlights look ready to fall out…but one has to admire the sheer balls and dedication of the creator of this knockoff. Sure, he may have gone overboard with the dozen or so gauges on the inside, but this guy obviously has passion.
Can’t afford a Mustang? Build one. Hard to beat that kind of dedication.
