The man himself, Carroll Shelby, changed our world forever with the cars he and his company have built. Not long ago we said goodbye to a man that will not be forgotten, especially with cars all over the world sporting the Shelby name. Now that the dispute over Carroll’s body has been resolved, he may finally rest in peace. After his passing, the price of some of his personal possessions are bound to fetch a few dollars. Here’s one example that is about to cross the Vicari auction block.
This specific Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR #445 was one chosen by Mr. Shelby himself for his personal use and stored at his home/ranch. This car comes with the original documentation complete with the title sporting Carroll Shelby’s signature and the bill of sale from Shelby to the current owner.
If you don’t know the GT500KR, let’s get you up to spee…literally. The King of the Road has a DOHC 5.4-L supercharged V8 engine capable of 540 horses and 510 lbs. ft. of torque. The rear is beefed up by 3:73 gears and it’s connected to a short throw shifter. Stopping power is provided by 14″ Brembo brakes with four-piston aluminum calipers in the front and 11.8″ vented disc single caliper piston calipers for the rear. In terms of speed, it goes from 0-60 mph in an estimated 4.3 seconds and takes on the quarter mile at an estimated 12.5 seconds @ 114 MPH.
Handling gets props with a front independent modified suspension Macpherson strut, coil springs with special linear rate, Ford Racing Shock absorbers that are gas-pressurized, a 34-mm stablilizer bar, along with a front strut tower brace by Ford Racing.
Now on to the rear suspension, it features a 3-link solid axle with special linear rated coil springs, more gas-pressurized Ford Racing shock absorbers, a 24-mm solid stabilizer bar accompanied by a Panhard rod. Let’s not forget the ABS system with four channels, all-speed traction control and brake force distributed electronically.
On to appearances, the wheels consist of unique GT500KR 18 x 9.5″ machined aluminum wheels featuring SVT center caps. The car is Ebony Black with a Satin Ebony Black Stripe with only 236 produced in that color combo for the 2009 model. Not only that, this car only has 1,600 original miles making it very rare indeed.
Can’t wait to see how much this bad boy goes for! Let the bidding begin.
