Spring is here, and the racing season is revving up across many different types of motorsports. Among the most promising and competitive series is the SCCA Pirelli World Challenge series, which pits Mustangs and Camaros against BMWs and Mazdas, among other brands. Last year saw the Mustangs slowly climb the rankings ladder, with Capaldi Racing finishing in second place overall in the GTS class.
Of course, they’re hoping to land the first place finish for the 2012 season. Prior to this weekend’s opening race of the SCCA World Challenge, Capaldi Racing is showing off the new look for their Boss 302S Mustang, as well as a new driver, Alfonso Perri.
In 2011, Capaldi Racing fielded an older Mustang FR500S on the field, managing to out-race all of the newer Boss Mustangs (save for class champion Paul Brown) for a second place finish to the season. This year they’ve upgraded to a newer 2013 Boss 302S Mustang, which boasts a newer motor and better racing gear than the outgoing Mustang FR500S.
They’ve also upgraded drivers to Alfonso Perri, a kart racer who will be entering the SCCA World Challenge as a virgin. Perri has raced in Formula F and coached other drivers as well, though now he will put his skills to the test at the aptly-named World Challenge. Can this Boss climb to the top? Stay tuned this weekend, March 24th, for the opening race in St. Petersberg, Florida.
