The Ford Racing Cobra Jet program has revolutionized NHRA Stock and Super Stock racing over the last couple of seasons; the ability for the end-user to purchase a factory-designed and built race car hasn’t been seen since the heyday of musclecars back in the late ’60’s and early ’70’s. The CJ Program has catapulted Ford right back into the thick of things in Stock and Super Stock, and offers many benefits a self-built racecar simply can’t offer.
The 2014 Cobra Jet has a couple of new options not produced in years past, namely the stunning Gotta Have It Green hue and a new Cobra Jet-exclusive flat black color code. In addition, there is an all-new 3-speed race transmission complete with SFI-approved bellhousing for safety, and a parachute mount offered for racers planning to compete in Super Stock and run faster than 150 MPH, where the ‘chute becomes mandatory by NHRA.
The engine will be the familiar 5.0L TiVCT engine that wears a Whipple supercharger and CNC-ported cylinder heads, while the chassis features the Finite Element Analysis-developed roll cage for rigidity and safety. The body shell itself has been lightened and optimized for weight distribution, while an electric power steering system has all of the assist with no parasitic power loss. Recaro seats keep the driver in place during the record-setting-capable elapsed times, and the suspension system has been developed by Ford Racing for optimum 60-foot times and high-speed stability. The same 50-unit limited production as past years is in effect, and each car will also include exclusive CJ-only content for collect-ability. The Cobra Jet has NHRA National Event wins in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 to its credit, and is a big part of the reason Ford collected of the NHRA’s Manufacturer’s Cup in 2011 and 2012. MSRP is $97,990, and orders will be taken in April. Check out www.fordracingparts.com/cobrajet for more information.
