Terry “Beefcake” Reeves made it three Super Bowl wins in a row with his Vortech powered Mustang at the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois less than two weeks ago. Beefcake has spent his 2014 season racing in the new NMRA Coyote Modified class. As we predicted would happen, this class has been running in the mid to high sigh-second ET range and the competition is fierce.
For the third year in a row Beefcake managed to pull off a win at Rt 66 with his Vortech Supercharged Coyote Mustang. Vortech has been integral to Beefcake’s winning ways over the years, and he even sells the company’s products through his Team Beefcake Racing performance parts company. With 302 cubic inches under the hood being breathed on by what we were assured is “plenty” of boost from the V7-JT trim Vortech supercharger Reeves made his way through the field. In the semi-final a staging dual between Beefcake and Hellion sponsored driver Frank Varela, resulted in Varela timing out at the starting line essentially giving Beefcake’s Vortech powered ride a bye-run. The incident remains the subject of internet chatter and debate to this day.
In the final round it was Beefcake versus Dyno Joe Cram for the event win. There was no shortage of smack-talk between the two all weekend long, especially leading up to the final. At the starting line it was all Beefcake who pulled a holeshot on Cram with a .080 light. Cram ran the faster ET, but it wasn’t enough to herd in the Beef.
In the Super Bowl round Beefcake was the 11th car for Team NMRA. “It was different this year, since Coyote Modified is a headsup class it runs later in the Super Bowl Race. So The pressure was definitely on, it was all tied up when I got up there,” Beefcake tells us. In the end he pulled out the win, and later the final round went to NMRA securing the Super Bowl win and a third ring.
With the NMRA World Finals up next Beefcake tells us he has some testing and adjustments to do. He’s on top of his game, and Beech Bend is familiar territory for the southern Ohio racer. Look for Beefcake to put up some big numbers this fall as he tries to chase down another event win and the Coyote Modified championship.
