Ford is lucky to have its cadre of crazy engineers down in Australia. Those Aussies are always coming up with some crazy concoction or other, and they’ve managed to manufacture some really impressive sport saloons and utes. They’ve also had the Boss name kicking around for some time, while us Americans won’t see the return of the Boss until 2012.

According to Go Auto, Ford is currently contemplating using a supercharged 5.0 engine in a number of Aussie vehicles, and such an engine could even make it into the Shelby GT500.

Go Auto wrote that Ford issued an “indirect vote of confidence” in an Aussie developed, supercharged 5.0 engine. This engine was developed by Ford and Prodrive, and is slated to be introduced into the Australian XR8 vehicles, which are the top of the line performance vehicles. The article also delves into talking about the 2012 Boss Mustang, and that it almost had a supercharger strapped to it.

The only reason they went naturally aspirated was because the original Boss was also a naturally aspirated engine. We also think that with the GT500 using a supercharged 5.4 liter engine, a supercharged 5.0 might very well be just a few horsepower short of Ford’s flagship Mustang. Word has it though the 5.4 liter might soon be replaced by a supercharged 5.0 anyways. We think Ford is wise to import some ingenuity from Australia; we’d like to get our hands on a few of their cars too.
