AEM Electronics Joins Dyno Joe Cram In NMRA Coyote Modified

IMG_1785The NMRA‘s Coyote Modified class is following hot on the heels of the series’ Coyote Stock class, filling up with more participants seemingly as each race takes place. In its first season in 2014, the Coyote Modified class is a serious step up from Coyote Stock as the racers are permitted to modify nearly all aspects of the engine and transmission combinations to achieve serious performance.

Texas racer Dyno Joe Cram is one racer has been battling all season long in Coyote Modified. He started the season with a stock engine topped off with an Edelbrock supercharger and has since moved to an engine built by Houston Machine and Balance. Cram has been battling with consistency this season, but is confident that the ProCharger F1A supercharger will take him where he wants to go.

IMG_2067Now Cram has more assistance in his quest – he’s joined forces with AEM Electronics, installing their AQ-1 datalogger into the car in an effort to get a better handle on what’s happening inside the engine.

“I was up in the air on which datalogger system to use. The AEM unit just fit my needs very easily and was light on my pocket book compared to others. For the Coyote platform and for anyone running a factory ECM, this unit integrates right in, for those running a stand alone ECU, the system offers more capabilities of logging than any other on the market in the Target Price range. We can log everything we need from EGT’s to air/fuel ratio. We now have a datalogger than can give us engine data, chassis data with wheel speed and driveshaft speed all with the ease of a compact SD card,” says Cram.

In addition to the installation of the AQ-1, Cram has also been in discussions to install the company’s Infinity engine management system for next year, as he doesn’t want to make such a drastic change with only one race to go in the 2014 NMRA season. He’s also quick to credit the assistance of Tim Matherly of MV Performance, Chuck Watson of Watson Racing, and Tim Eichhorn of MPR Race Engines for much-needed assistance this year.
