The latest F-150 is said to offer best-in-class payload and towing capabilities under its refreshed look.
Today during the broadcast of the FOX NFL Wildcard Pregame Show at 4 p.m. viewers will get a preview of the new F-150 set to take its official bow at the North American International Auto Show. In addition to refreshed styling and a tour de force of technological offerings, the most intriguing options on the latest F-150 order sheet are the new and updated engines.

This new F-150 is our latest example of Ford’s commitment to going further for our customers through continuous innovation.”
To further its mission to become your rolling office, the latest F-150s are packed with numerous technologies designed to make your life easier. From adaptive cruise control and Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection to an imbedded 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and a B&O PLAY audio system, these options can make the cabin where you spend a lot of time more enjoyable (and safer).

The revised engines are also an area of interest for fans of other Fords, as the F-150’s 5.0-liter engine is said to receive ‘significant upgrades for increased power and torque.’ While those upgrades and official output haven’t been confirmed yet, it sounds to us like some magic learned on other Ford programs might cast a spell on the Coyote. It also seems to put to rest those click-bait rumors spread by mainstream auto media outlets about a 4.8-liter V8, but we’ll see how that plays out at NAIAS.
There are also a host of new interior options depending on the trim level you order. Buyers of the Platinum can chose a Dark Marsala trim, while Limited buyers can select the Navy Pier treatment. There is even a carbon fiber appearance upgrade available to Sport and Larait Sport buyers.
Rounding out the revised engines is a second-generation 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine, which features fuel system with both port and direct injection—like the Ford GT—to feed increased horsepower to an engine that is said to feature “reduced internal friction and improved robustness.”
With so many engine options, you might just have a tough time picking an engine for your truck. The transmission choice will be easier, as the much-ballyhooed 10-speed automatic can sit behind the 2.7 EcoBoost, the 5.0 Coyote and the 3.0 Power Stroke diesel.
Since the F-150 is Ford’s sales juggernaut, it’s refreshing to see that it offers an engine option to suit just about any need. It’s also great to see our beloved Coyote 5.0-liter engine still has a home under its hood, which bodes well for the future of the naturally aspirated V8.
