There are a lot of people out there who won’t buy a new model car the first year it hits the sales floor until they know all of the kinks are smoothed out. The same thing happened when the 5.0L Coyote hit the sales floor. While some people rushed out to get one, others waited for another year or two to purchase theirs. So, is there an issue with the first S550 model?

Thanks to JustThatFordGuy, we came across 5OhSlow’s post on the Mustang6G.com forum where he posted about his beautiful 2015 Mustang 5.0L bursting into flames after some noticeable smoke coming out from under the hood. He had just picked it up from the dealership after getting some warranty issues fixed. Here is his account of what happened right after that.

“Just picked my car back up from the dealership for some warranty issues. Driving on the freeway and noticed some white smoke coming from the hood. It progressively got worse so I pulled over into the shoulder. Instinctively thought the car was over heating and it was steam from the radiator. So I proceeded to pop the hood as flames burst from the edges of the hood. Here’s the outcome. Insurance is going to love me. There were no mods to the car. It had 6k miles.”

He took the car in to get the heated/cooled seats replaced on both sides, and had them look at the hood where there was a small hole on a seam weld. They also checked the windshield and looked at some things around the cowl.

We want to know what happened to cause this car to catch fire, a stock car with such low mileage. Is this an issue that other S550 owners need to worry about? We are glad to see that 5OhSlow is okay, and we hope that everything gets ironed out for him on this.
