It’s fair to say that American tastes often differ drastically from those of our friends in Europe. American culture is often exported to these countries via television and music, but until the 2015 Mustang was revealed, Europe has been mostly denied the excellent Ford pony car. While the Mustang will be sold worldwide, we expect regional differences to apply to local tastes.

In the case of the European Mustang, buyers will have their choice of either the 2.3 liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, or the 5.0 liter V8, but not the 3.7 liter V6 reports CarBuzz. The base V6 engine will be strictly for American buyers.

Why is this? Well Ford has lulled American buyers to expect a V6 Mustang, having done away with the four-cylinder option with the SN95 generation, and the new V6 engine is a pretty stout performer these days. In the 2015 Mustang it will serve as the base engine, with the EcoBoost engine slotting between the V8 and V6 options.

But Europe will only get the EcoBoost and V8 engine options, and it’s easy to see why. Many European countries have very strict regulations regarding engine size and output, and the 3.7 liter V6 is just too large in most cases. But the few buyers who can afford a V8 aren’t likely to opt for the V6 either, so why bother offering it?

Europe’s loss is not ours, as we harken back to the days when Ford offered a half-dozen engine options for the Mustang.You can never have too many options.
