2015 Mustang Redesign to be Unveiled This January?

One thing we have learned about Ford is that they are not very good about keeping secrets. Everybody knew about the 5.0 Coyote V8 before ever made it public. So to did people know that the 2005 Mustang redesign was going to be all about “retro.” So when rumors started surfacing about the next-generation Mustang, we tend to pay attention. But there are some rumors too far out there for even us.

The Mustang News is reporting that the North American Auto Show in Detroit this January could bring the 2015 Ford Mustang concept. But we won’t hold our breath for a few reasons.

First and foremost are the other, counter-rumors we’ve heard about a late-cycle refresh to the current Mustang’s look, which was last updated in 2010. This November is supposed to bring with it the refreshed look for the 2013 Mustang at the L.A. Auto Show, with ordering to take place soon thereafter. So we can’t imagine Ford would lineup the reveal of the 2015 Mustang so close to the 2013 unveiling.

More importantly is this comment from Ford’s chief designer J Mays; the 2015 Mustang design is “being locked down.” Which says to us that any such design, while nearing finality, is not exactly finished. That would leave little time to put together a viable concept car, which often takes months of drawing, modeling, and building before ever seeing the show circuit. So this is one rumor we feel we can lay to rest; the 2015 Mustang will not make an appearance this January.
