Next year will be the final year for the S197 platform of Mustangs. Introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year, the S197 has proven to be one of the most potent platforms for 21st century performance…but it is starting to look a little long in the teeth. 2014 will be the final model year for the S197 platform before a whole new Mustang hits the streets.
Mustangs Daily managed to get their hands on a leaked order guide for the 2014 Mustang, and as many of us already suspected, the Boss 302 option is gone for next year. Aside from a few color changes and appearance packages though, the 2014 Mustang seems intent on going out with a whisper, rather than a bang.
For 2014, the Mustang will get two new color options; Oxford White and Ruby Red Metallic with Tinted Clearcoat, while giving up Red Candy Metallic, Performance White, and School Bus Yellow (which was exclusive to the 2013 Boss 302).
Going forward, the Exterior Appearance Package 101A has also been replaced with a new exterior packaged called the FP6 Appearance Package. The FP6 package offers painted black outside mirror skull caps, a black decklid spoiler, quarter window louvers, and 18-inch painted black aluminum wheels. The FP8 package offers the same modifications, except the wheels are 19-inch machined aluminum.
The only other change of note is that the 2014 Shelby GT500 now comes standard with heated seats…except the Recaro racing seats of course. Honestly, we were kind of hoping for some kind of epic sendoff package. Perhaps Ford wants people to get amped up for the 2015 Mustang instead.
