When the Ford Mustang first hit dealerships in the spring of 1964, you could walk in and pay as little as $2,320 (plus tax, title, and registration) to could drive off of the lot in a brand new Mustang. Today’s Ford Mustang starts well above $20,000, causing many of us to wonder…how did we go from two grand to twenty?
Quite simply, it was in small increments one year after the next. Ford has released the official pricing for the 2014 Ford Mustang and Shelby GT500 models, and while the base model Mustang price has held firm, everything with a V8 has ticked upwards by about $500.
That’s bad news for anybody wanting to buy a brand new Mustang GT or Shelby GT500, though it isn’t like $500 is going to break the bank if you’re shopping for a muscle car. The good news for Mustang V6 buyers is that pricing has held firm at $22,995, maintaining the base model Mustang’s place as one of the best performance bargains on the market.
The Mustang V6 Premium price also stays steady at $26,995, but the base Mustang GT sees its price rise from $31,095 to $31,545, a jump of $450. The Mustang GT Premium also jumps $450 from $35,095 to $35,495. For those wanting the ultimate Mustang, the Shelby GT500, you’ll have to open your wallet to the tune of $55,445 for the base model, and $58,940 for the fully-equipped Shelby. Like an extra $450 matters at that price point…
