My Boss 302 is a 2012 model year car even though we still have a full quarter left in 2011. That means that by time 2012 finally rolls around in a few months, it will be time for enthusiasts to start ordering 2013 year models. For Mustangs there are some significant changes coming. Ford is refreshing the Mustang for ’13 and the rumor is that the Boss 302 will receive some much-requested new features.
While we don’t know if any of the rumors on the styling changes to make the 2013 Mustangs look more like the Shelby GT500 are true, we do know things will change and this will be the final refresh for the current Mustang before the new model bows in a few more years down the road. Apparently, the order banks for the 2013 Mustang are set to open on December 5, 2011, according to Mustang Heaven. The rumor also says that the first build for 2013 models will start on February 27, 2012. This has me wondering then when the end of the 2012 model year production will occur.
I would think that Ford would need a month to finish the orders it has for 2012 cars, so my guess would be the last order for a 2012 would be in November. That’s only about two months away. If that’s accurate, then I foresee some of the Boss 302 owners that have late Q3 and Q4 cars having to wait a little longer and pick up 2013 models. That’s good news for those with 2012 Boss 302’s, as it doesn’t seem likely that all of the predicted 4,000 2012 model year Boss 302’s will see the road. That’s assuming Ford doesn’t crank up the rate at which it’s building the Boss 302’s before orders for the 2012 model come to a close.
