The Mecum Auction is a great way to stumble across rare rides looking for that new forever home, and it s any avid car collector’s dream. One rare vehicle ready to cross the auction block caught our attention, a Wimbledon White 2011 Shelby GT350 prototype (Lot S135.1), number 3 of 3 produced. Not only is this a rare gem of a Ford Mustang, it gets extra cool points for being Carroll Shelby’s personal prototype.

This was the first year that the Shelby GT350 Mustang was brought back to life, with the classic GT350 last being produced four decades earlier. Not only was the Shelby GT350 Mustang model brought back to life, 2011 was the first model year where Ford reintroduced the new and improved 5.0-liter power plant to its Mustang lineup, with this all-new 5.0-liter engine dubbed the Coyote.

With the Coyote stuffed inside of the engine bay and a few Shelby goodies, the supercharged 2011 Shelby GT350 was rated at 624 horsepower, with a six-speed transmission to help shift that power into gear. Added rumble and airflow is generated from a unique Shelby/Borla exhaust setup, and the car rated at 0-60 miles per hour in just 3.7 seconds.

Not only was this Carroll’s personal prototype, it is a beauty that has graced displays at many national auto shows, including the big players such as New York and Chicago.
