Earlier this year, Apple released its tablet computer, the iPad. It has been quite a success, and other computer companies are hot on Apple’s heels to release their own tablets. Some Mustang enthusiasts who just happen to be Apple fans have even installed iPads in their muscle cars. While we’ve already seen one workable application, this next iPad installation goes above and beyond.
Over at The Mustang Source forums, one intrepid Mustang and iPad owner not only incorporated his iPad into his dashboard, but actually moved his entire center console on to the roof of his Mustang.
The interior instantly reminds us of the cockpit of a jet fighter, and the iPad installation and console integration is so seamless it looks like it came from the factory like that. The Ford engineers should really give this guy a call and figure out how he pulled off this execution so well. We wouldn’t be surprised if automakers saw this and started integrating it into their own vehicles. It is just that cool.
Originally having ordered a Mustang with navigation, username 5th Stang was a bit miffed when his Mustang came without the nav-system. Undeterred, he took his car and installed the iPad system himself. But what to do with the SYNC system, HVAC and radio controls? Mount them on the ceiling, of course! Imagine sitting there, flipping switches, turning knobs, and pushing buttons the same way airline pilots do. It just seems far cooler than the pedestrian lean-forward-and-push routine that has always plagued cars. The designer is even coming up with a detailed how-to website so you can copy his work and have your very own iPad installation.
