Last year the world lost a remarkable man when Carroll Shelby passed away, but the legacy the of the Shelby brand continues to impress. No long satisfied with riding the coattails of the GT350 and GT500 name, Shelby seems to be establishing itself as a leader in outrageous performance cars.
Their latest effort is a shot across the bow of aftermarket car manufactures alike, who have cranked out outrageously powerful cars of their own. But the new Shelby 1000 S/C may just take the cake, reportedly creating 1,200 horsepower and offering a host of suspension upgrades. It’s an incredible car from the sounds of it…one that costs quite a chunk of change.
Yes, you read that right; Shelby claims the 1000 S/C cranks out around 1,200 horsepower, as much as the oft-talked-about Hennessey Venom GT. That is almost twice as much power as the standard Shelby GT500 makes, though Shelby test driver Vince Laviolette claims that the new Mustang supercar handles incredibly well in the corners thanks to numerous suspension upgrades, as well as offering an enormous amount of raw horsepower.
And it had better, as Shelby is asking a whopping $154,995 for the Shelby 1000 S/C. That is on top of the cost of a Shelby GT500, which has a MSRP of around $55,000, bringing the total cost to over $210,000 once title, tax, and registration is figured in. That’s a lot of money, but compared to the $1 million asking price many similar supercars are asking, it almost sounds like a bargain.
The official unveiling of the Shelby 1000 S/C happens next week at the New York Auto Show, and we’ll be sure to bring you all of the details.
