World Street Challenge Saturday Coverage
We are back in the tower here in St Louis. Currently they are running bracket car eliminations. The temperature is up a little from Friday and the wind has also picked up a little bit. I would expect that the last qualifying session will be good for some record setting passes.

The racers are just getting in and getting their cars ready for first round. The spectators are just starting to roll in to the facility also.

Dave Pierce runs a nitrous pro mod out of Oklahoma is here for the big money. He made a 6.28 pass during the test and tune yesterday. But they missed the setup on the first round of qualifying.

Dan Millen is having trouble with water leaking from somewhere. They are trying to get the heads replace before the last round of qualifying.

Don Burton has his car all back together for second round of qualifying.

Changing the tires and the suspension setups was the theme of the day in the pits on Saturday morning.

A few more cars have shown up this morning. Zoop Zellonis came in this morning to race in the Extreme Street Class.

Second round of qualifying will be starting in the next 30 minutes. Check back for updates.

Qualifying Round 2 Notes
In Pro Mod class is running the first round. First few cars are still finding the track to be tricky. Eman, Allen, Shorr, Miller and Conover all have trouble making a pass. Dean Goforth moves up to the sixth spot with a 6.45 and his so is sitting in the third spot after the second round. Mark Micke runs a 6.56 at 203 after not getting on the qualifying sheet after round number one.

Rick Corn steps up with a 6.75 over his round 1 pass of 7.73.

Ryan Hargget runs a tenth faster with his 6.56 and had to drive it to keep it off the wall.

Dave Pierce steps up today running a soft 6.41 @ 227.

Tim Savell improves his first round 8 second pass to a 6.41. Tim had to do some driving to keep if from crossing the center line.

Mike Moran has trouble off the line, but pedals it and stays in it. He gets out of the grove and heads for the wall, so he gets out of it.

Steve Matusek does not improve from his 6.49 last night with his 6.50 today. Just got the bad news that he was unable to get stopped, and ran into the trough the sand trap and retaining fence. Check back later for more details.

Dan Saitz makes it down the track with a 6.55 but it is not any faster then his 6.47 yesterday.

Jarod Wenrick runs the fastest pass of the round. He improves his 6.43 from yesterday to a 6.29 @ 226 to bump into the number 2 spot.

Jason Hamstra is unable it improve on yesterdays performance or make it down the track. He is into tire shake right away and the car gets sideways before he gets out of it.

Qualifying Round 2 Notes Pro Outlaw
Pro Outlaw round two is underway.

Tim Lynch only runs a 6.80 at 212 in the second round of qualifying. Looked like the car moved towards the wall.

Spiro Pappas takes too long to bump into the lights and gets timed out and does not receive a time. Next to Pappas is Ron Lummus who gets loose at a 1000 feet. He does a great job of not hitting anything.

Frank Pompilio and Mike Kimmis run high seven second passes.

Rob Golobo smoked the tires at the hit.

Brian Carpenter is running like a bracket car here in St Louis. He has ran identical 7.02’s in the first two rounds.

Grant McCreary steps up to where he is use to running with a 6.79 which would put him in the third spot as of now.

Chuck Samuel improves from his 20.57 in the first round but not what he wanted to run. He smoked the tires off the line but got back in it to run a 10.50.

Qualifying Round 2 Notes
Super Street Outlaw is an all Mustang class after the first round of qualifying. Zac Posey steps up and runs a 7.63. Jason Halfacre pedals it out of the hole a little and slows to an 8.0 at 192.

John Urist is another one looking like a bracket car. He ran a 7.51 last night and a 7.50 @ 189 today. Heard he was passing kidney stones Thursday at the hospital.

AJ Powell steps up a little to a 7.56 at 186 after a late night converter change. He ran a 7.57 last night in better air.

Don Burton comes back from a broken lifter to run an 8.13 at 133 getting out of it early. After qualifying I will check to see if the car is hurt.

Travis Franklin improves his 8.22 to a 7.96 in the second round of qualifying.

Phil Hines destroys the tires off the line.

Extreme Street is running round two and starts with Bob Curren getting on the qualifying sheet with a 9.04. Zoop is another racer making his first pass. He runs an 8.67 at 168 to go to number two qualifier.

Scott Lovell is very consistent today. He slows down a little in the heat with an 8.95 from his 8.91 he ran yesterday.

Drag Radial number one qualifier is up to the line. Jason Lee has to do some driving to keep it away from the center line. He pedals it to an 8.08 @177.

Tony Akins improves his 8.16 from Friday with an 8.11 at 173.

Joe Bridge runs an off pace 8.85 at 178, but it is good enough to get him in the show. The 178 is the fastest run in drag radial so far.

Steve Matusek made a pass in round two of qualifying and the pass was very similar to his pass last night. He ran a 6.50 at over 220 mph, but when he pulled the chutes he did not feel them. The chutes came out but they did not bloom and did not help stop the car. Steve did everything he could do to slow the car down but it still when through the sand trap and retaining fence. The car came to rest in the hay bails just past the finish line.
Steve was fine after the incident and was in good spirits.

Dan Millen has his car almost back together and will be ready for the last round of qualifying.

Ron Lummus and Tony Williams were both changing engines after round two of qualifying.

Steve Matusek is ok after his wreck. He was sore but is on his way home. We hope they are able to get the car rebuilt and make it back out soon. The track has been having trouble with the timing system in the left lane. They are currently running Wild Street cars down the right lane for their qualifying. It is looking like it will be a late night for round three.
