In early 2008, a somewhat familiar yellow Mustang appeared out of New Jersey but with a whole new mission. The car owned by Alex Vrettos was a regular in the NMRA but with the rules restrictions and the growing outlaw drag radial races, Vrettos and his Corupt Motorsports had taken a short hiatus to completely prepare the car to be the atop the racing world.
On May 23, 2008 during Real Street competition at
Maryland International Raceway, Vrettos would step up to run the fastest run in history on a drag radial of 7.38@198 and would forever rekindle the competitive fire in many. Ever since this date the competition had been chasing him and we have seen new records at just about every race, with a 7.18 being the mark to beat by Dave Hinzman.
Vrettos has been as fast as a 7.37 at over 207 mph; he now has a new objective. The car was disassembled and sent to
DMC Racing earlier this year for a 25.2 upgrade as well as removing almost 300 pounds from the Mustang. With safety issues being more apparent than ever and speeds nearing 210 mph, something further had to be done. All the safety mandates are fine amongst racers but there has always been controversy over torque arms being used in Mustangs. Alex’s car had been equipped with the torque arm. After examining the condition of components in the suspension and structural portions of the car, it has been decided to send the car to
Big Daddy Performance with aid from Joey Gambino of Gambino Fabrications to install a full floater rear for the upcoming 2009 season. This will add stability and be much safer for the quest to be the first radial car in the six second range. You can be assured that the heat will be on with at least a dozen cars shooting be atop the field and first in the sixes. Listen to Big Daddy Dwayne Gutridge explain the process of updating the
Corupt Motorsports team car of Alex Vrettos.
