Video: Old SHO No Slouch Either
The new Taurus SHO is a special car in many ways. It is one of the first new vehicles to feature Ford’s much ballyhooed EcoBoost twin-turbo engine. It is also the revival of not just one, but two important nameplates from the Blue Oval: Taurus and SHO. The first SHO was a sporty American sedan that was affordable and fast, but was also a sleeper car that did not flaunt its performance.

So we went back in time (via Youtube) to find out what SHO owners have been up to with their beloved cars. As it turns out, there have been turbocharged SHOs all along!

This first video shows a turbocharged SHO taking on all comers, including a C5 Corvette and Ford Lightning pickup. This SHO had a single turbo, putting out in excess of 400 horsepower and torque to the front wheels, and drove like it was equipped with a manual transmission (only available in the first few years of SHO-dom). The driver handily beat all challengers, though only with rolling starts.

Then there is this video, which shows a 385 horsepower SHO taking on GM’s beastly CTS-V sedan. The 400 horsepower luxury sedan was no match for the SHO, from either a 55mph roll or a 40mph roll. However, a stopped start might produce a different outcome.

Then there's this impressive performance by an SHO against a Ferrari convertible. The new Taurus starts with almost 60 percent more horsepower and torque than the original, plus AWD, so it has some inherent advantages. It hearkens back to the original V6 configuration, rather than the crummy V8 models of the late 90's. How long before we see a modern ten-second SHO?
