Unsticking Stickers
i've got 95 Saleen copy. So its really just a tricked out G.T. with some Saleen gear and body kit. I want it to look the part. The Saleen stickers have been on there for about 5 years. Any advice or things to avoid when removing them?

Why do you want to remove them? If it's a Saleen look alike, why remove the Saleen stickers. I have a few solutions, you need to soak the stickers, that's the thing, but not affect the paint at all. That's not easy.

One thing to remember, the paint WILL be different underneath, and no matter how you remove the stickers, the color will be different.

The guy who built it knew what to put on a G.T. to make a Saleen. It's factory stuff all the way around. But I want to show this car. And all it takes is a look under the hood and the truth is told. I'm taking the car in a different direction but the bodywork is sweet.
I used a heat gun to get them off initally then some Dupli-Color Prep-Spray removed the goo pretty well. A buffer and some polishing compound and it looked perfect until direct sun at about 2 feet. Good enough to get me to the next paint job. I think I might have enough posts to show some before and after. The Black Chrome FR500's are tight.

Hi there,
I'm a car show judge for the International Show car Association (ISCA).

I'm not sure why you would be concerned about the engine unless you're thinking of showing the car in stock or unmodified class.

One of our criteria is paint, so if the paint has a discoloring issue we will notice it.

See ya

It depends on how long the sticker was on the car. I have seen cases where people removed stickers without any discoloration but those decals weren't on the car for long. As far as being judged in a car show any paint imperfection will be deducted if its noticed.

Thanks
Michael

Use a heat gun to remove the stickers, just heat until they start to wrinkle alittle and they come right off, but be careful. You can get a heat gun at Harbor Freight for about $20. There will be some residue left and that can be removed with a paste wax or you may have to buff the whole car. My wife won a Mustang that was covered with stickers, that's how we got them off, and after a good paste wax job it looked like new.
