A new web site has been formed to encourage Ford to relaunch the once fanatical high output naturally aspirated V6 Taurus that debuted in 1989. The infamous SHO, which was built upon the pedestrian Taurus "egg" platform, was a car that was well before it's time with a big power front wheel drive V6.
Bring Back the SHO aims to generate a movement for Ford to introduce a high-output version of the existing Taurus.
The web site even recently got mentioned in Wikipedia. Check out the info on Bring Back the SHO and let us know what you think!
Possible revival
"Since Ford announced that it was reviving the Taurus in 2007, a community has since been created entitled "Bring Back the SHO", which is a collective effort by Ford enthusiasts to convince Ford to create a SHO version of the new fifth generation Taurus. Although the website has received a significant amount of media coverage, the website has not received any reconigition nor any response from Ford. The website and its community still operates to this day."
In 1989 Ford created the affordable sports sedan when they offered the Taurus SHO. The SHO was a car built well before its time, and belonged to a genre of automobiles Ford has since all but abandoned. Though the SHO was retired in 1999 and the Taurus moniker in 2006, Ford has proven that nothing is final. For 2008 the Taurus nameplate is back and on a car that's arguably better than the original Taurus ever was.
Here's some additional information from the site:
The intention of this campaign is to spread the word to Ford and various automobile outlets that there is a demand for high performance sedans. In a period when performance sedans feature 300 or more horsepower, it's important that Ford fuels that fire as well. They created this market with the original SHO. They can once again conquer this market with the same car.
We have updated the entire website around our brand new concept which is based off the taurus concept picture. The new Taurus design is heading in a whole different direction and we are only adding ideas to an all ready amazing concept! The original picture was very blurry and was taken with a camera phone, it took some time but we have created what we think could be the next Ford Taurus SHO!!
