Spotted: 2010 Trans-Am Mustang
For those who get their performance fix on the road course, Trans-Am racing was always the pinnacle of Motorsports. Back in the 70’s the cars resembled more of what you could order from Ford the next day, but Ford’s newest edition to this historical series is still something to marvel at. While we won’t see this beauty stateside, we will see a similar entry with some noticeable differences - this car gives us the ability to sort of see into the future of U.S. Trans-Am racing. This particular heavily modified Mustang was spotted on display at the Fajardo Ford dealership in Puerto Rico.

This particular car was built to compete in the Central American GT series to be piloted by Rolando Falgueras according to Mustangblog.

The lowered stance, widened body, massive rear spoiler and altogether obscure-looking car probably has your head tilted in a funny direction, but this design obviously has it’s advantages with a much lower center-of-gravity than a production Mustang. While not technically a street-legal car it is still quite the cool creation. The doors look to be non-functional lightweight pieces and the interior is surely stripped down to the basic necessities. The side-mirrors were even moved inboard to the interior for a slight aerodynamic edge. The car itself is a Roush Racing chassis customized by Pichie Campos and others at the Fajardo dealership.

The engine choice is rumored to be a 358 cubic-inch engine similar to the likes of what the Ford NASCAR teams are currently using and it will be backed up by a manual transmission. The very talented Tony and Kerry Hitt performed the extensive body modifications. Now that we at least know what direction the 2010 Mustang Trans-Am styling is taking, it will be cool to see what they come up with for the U.S. version.
